Behold...the Dirty Marmaduke Flute Squad By: Brian Campbell |

The Dirty Marmaduke Flute Squad http://www.flutesquad.com
The Dirty Marmaduke Flute Squad. It’s just fun to say isn’t it? Well, OK, maybe not, but still they are a band you should definitely try on for size, no matter what type of music you listen to--even country, yes, even country.
Little is known about the fabled members of this legendary group of muses, but what is known is that they are actually a group of intergalactic travelers that made their way to Earth in a makeshift cardboard banana, destined to drain our world of our vital resources, like plastic screws, shoe heels, piano keys and clouds. I know the sheer idea of stealing the world’s clouds is preposterous, but they claim they can do it.
OK, I did fabricate and exaggerate some of that last paragraph, but what I can’t make up is the talent that TDMFS possesses. It’s true; all you need to do is listen to their witty new release, Die Humpin.’ The hilarity of this record aside, TDMFS is able to flow easily from track to track, playing a variety of styles, including country, rockabilly, rock, blues, folk, acoustic, and the list goes on and on. There is something for everyone: a track about the numerical value of Pi (You’re Too Skinny), a song about the want to change races (I Wish I Were a Black Man), a track about our nation’s leader (George W. Makes Me Bleed) and a track even questioning religion, well sort of at least, I think (Don’t Let Jesus Ruin Your Day).
Over the past few years, these guys have literally set stages on fire, and a few hearts along the way, throughout the Baltimore indie rock scene. Their equation is simple: take a guy wearing a large cardboard horse head and cape, a famed Mexican wrestler, and a monk, add to them a British butler, a Jewish gynecologist and a fighter pilot, and mix them onstage with quick choruses, guitar solos and versatile vocals, and you have TDMFS. It is that easy, but don’t actually try to mix those things together on your own because the outcome could be less than desirable.
Regardless, you’ll find the Dirty Marmaduke Flute Squad at home over at www.flutesquad.com. Don’t be shy, pay them a visit! Believe you me, they are pretty hospitable. |
